Why you might suddenly be paying more for your New World delivery
New World customers who are used to getting their groceries delivered for free, may have been surprised to find a charge added to their order since the start of March.
More than 40 New World stores had been offering free delivery for online orders over $100. The promotion ran for different time periods depending on the store – at some it ran for most of 2024. But it ended for all stores at the end of February. New World also ran a free delivery promotion for the first three months of 2024.
Consumer NZ asked Foodstuffs, the owner of New World supermarkets, if it wanted to comment and was told: “In line with global retail practice, our customers pay a small service fee for packing and delivery of their groceries.”
The cost for grocery delivery for New World’s North Island customers is now $14 if you spend up to $199.99 and $9 for any amount over that.
In the South Island, it’s $15 up to $199.99 and $10 for any spend over that.
Woolworths delivers and charges the same as New World’s North Island stores. It has a Delivery Saver scheme that costs $23 a month or $118 for six months to get unlimited free deliveries.
Click and collect is $5 for orders under $50 at Woolworths and New World’s North Island stores, then it’s free if you spend more than that. It’s $5, regardless of how much you spend, at New World in the South Island.
